All people are entitled to affordable energy, equitable treatment by their utilities, and access to electricity and heating service. CUB fights for consumer protections and against unfair rate hikes by Minnesota utilities.
Our Work
Fighting rate hikes
CUB advocates for fairness and affordability at the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission and the state legislature. We fight unreasonable rate hikes in utility rate cases, rate rider requests, and other proceedings that affect Minnesotans’ energy costs.
Monitoring utility practices
We track utility data and what Minnesotans tell us about their own experiences to understand if service is affordable and to make sure utilities’ customer service practices follow state law.
Advocating for affordability programs
We advocate for programs and policies to ensure that electricity and heat are affordable for all Minnesotans.
Ensuring programs are accessible
We partner with the State of Minnesota, utilities, other nonprofits, and community organizations to test strategies that help Minnesotans take advantage of the complex web of energy programs, rebates, and incentives.
