Reminder: Submit your utility rebate paperwork
If you replaced an appliance or made energy efficiency upgrades in your home this year, you may be eligible for utility rebates. The Energy Conservation and Optimization (ECO) Act was passed in 2021 by the state legislature and requires almost all gas and electric utility companies to offer rebate programs. These programs are funded by your energy bills, so make sure to take advantage of them whenever possible.
Utility energy efficiency rebates are available for heat pumps, water heaters, home insulation, electric lawnmowers, and a host of other products and services. Because the law is focused on improving energy efficiency, rebate-eligible appliances and improvements must meet fairly high energy efficiency standards.
Check your utility’s website or call for rebate information. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

- Check to see if any appliances or energy efficiency work performed in 2024 are eligible for utility rebates.
- If you worked with a contractor, determine who fills out rebate paperwork.
- Keep all receipts and other important documents.
- Use a desktop computer, if possible, as PDF applications are common.
- Send in rebate forms before the application period closes. Check submission deadlines below. Many rebates close on December 31st each year.
In addition to rebate options, there are income-qualified programs that can help lower or eliminate the cost of making your home more energy-efficient. Consider applying for the federal Weatherization Assistance Program to protect your home from the elements and make it more comfortable during the winter months. Utilities also offer income-qualified programs and can let you know if you qualify, or what steps you must take to enroll. If you need help paying bills, consider the Energy Assistance Program and utility affordability programs
