Home Energy Assessment
A home energy assessment can provide an overview of your energy opportunities at an amazing value. Home energy assessments are great if you are looking to make significant upgrades with a home improvement project, recently moved into a new home, or just want to make sure your home is ready for all the crazy Minnesota seasons.
An assessment by a professional auditor will determine the cost-effective investments you can make to save energy and money and also increase comfort in your home.
Home energy audits vary, but some common inspections and measures include:
- Insulation inspection
- Blower door test
- Thermal image testing
- Inspection of the home’s exterior
- Examination of the condition of your major appliances
Some energy audits even include installing high-efficiency measures. For example, Xcel and CenterPoint customers can get an audit that includes the installation of high-efficiency LEDs, a programmable thermostat, weather stripping, high-efficiency shower heads, and water heater insulation – all for the price of the audit.
Most utilities provide discounts for home energy audits. Find out what’s available to you using our Rebates and Discounts tool or by contacting your utility. If you are eligible for energy assistance, you may be eligible for a free energy audit. Check with your local Weatherization Assistance Program provider and/or your utility about options.
CUB’s own Carmen Carruthers had an energy audit done on her new home. Check out her experience!
