How does a consultation work?

Over the course of 30 minutes, together we'll review your utility bills. We'll ask you questions about your home and habits to better understand how you use energy. We'll identify why you're paying what you're paying and provide suggestions specific to your situation. After the consultation, you'll receive a follow-up report with links, resources, and research you can use to save money and save energy.

We provide support to every Minnesotans regardless of where you are in the state. Consultations are available for both homeowners and renters. Our services are always free of charge.

Who should sign-up for a consultation with CUB?

We serve Minnesotans from every corner of the state, both homeowners and renters. We can answer any of your energy or utility bill questions. Common reasons that consumers set up a consultation include: 

  • Making sense of a complicated energy bill with confusing charges.
  • Understanding why their energy bills have jumped for no apparent reason.
  • Identifying the best programs and rate options available.
  • Analyzing the results of a home energy audit.
  • Planning for long-term home energy upgrades.
  • Plugging in to rebates and resources to save money.

How do you prepare for a consultation?

To make the best use of the time together, we'll ask you to send us copies of two or three of your most recent utility bills. We can discuss any of your utility services including electricity, natural gas, and/or delivered fuels. If you don't know how to access your bills online, we'll send you instructions.  

When you sign up for a consultation, please feel free to leave any notes so we can better prepare for the discussion. Consultations are offered via Zoom or over the phone — let us know your preference.
