Clean Energy

What matters to us

CUB works for a rapid, cost-effective transition to clean energy that benefits the public – including communities that have long borne the negative impacts of our energy systems. We fight to make sure Minnesota’s energy sector will be carbon free by 2050, and that the transition will be affordable for all.

Our Work

Transparent planning for utility decarbonization

CUB advocates to rapidly decarbonize home energy in a manner that benefits Minnesotans. We’re working to ensure utilities plan to reach net zero emissions while making sure that energy is affordable.

Ensuring utility proposals are equitable and cost-effective

CUB monitors proposed utility investments, contracts, programs, and plans to advocate for rapid decarbonization in an equitable and cost-effective manner. We believe that gas utilities, in particular, must change their spending plans to protect ratepayers — especially low-income households and renters — from cost increases.

Supporting the electric grid of the future

CUB advocates for reasonable, cost-effective improvements to Minnesota's utility systems that increase reliability and enable clean energy projects to come online. We keep an eye on how utilities use grid upgrades and other new technologies to make sure they deliver ratepayer benefits from ratepayer investments.
