Planning Xcel’s Electricity Future (St. Paul): The Consumers Resource Plan, and How to Make Your Voice Heard

  • 06:00 PM
  • Amherst H. Wilder Foundation - 451 Lexington Pkwy N., St. Paul, MN 55104

Tuesday, October 15
6:00 – 7:30 p.m.

Xcel is in the midst of its Integrated Resource Plan, or IRP, a plan required by Minnesota law that lays out how it will provide electricity to its customers for the next 15 years. For consumers, this plan largely decides how much of your energy will come from coal, gas, wind and solar, as well as a great deal about the opportunities you will have for energy efficiency and similar programs.

The Public Utilities Commission (PUC) wants to hear what consumers think, with a St. Paul public hearing scheduled for October 28 and written comments accepted through January 8. (More info.)

You will leave this event:

  • Understanding what an IRP is.
  • Understanding the PUC decision-making process.
  • Understanding what’s in Xcel’s proposed plan, and the alternative Consumers Plan CUB is developing that would be cleaner and less expensive.
  • Feeling prepared to make your voice heard as a customer.
