Oakdale residents will get a chance to learn about solar options for their home or business and how to save money on their utility bills at an upcoming presentation at City Hall.

The city is hosting a “Solar Power Hour” at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 10 led by Midwest Renewable Energy Association to discuss group purchasing of solar power. The presentation will include the basics of solar, its financial implications and available incentives and how the Solar Twin Cities group purchasing program works.

At 5:30 p.m., residents who have signed up online, can get a free 20-minute bill consultation by the Citizens Utility Board of Minnesota. Bring your electric and gas bills and receive customized suggestions to reduce energy use and save money.

“With residents and businesses participating together in a bulk purchase it allows for some cost savings on the solar equipment,” said coordinator Jen Hassebroek. “Participants can also sign up for a no-obligation site assessment, where a solar professional will come to a home or business and determine whether or not the property is suitable for solar installation.”

These workshops are being held across the metro in Maplewood, Woodbury, Minnetonka, Richfield, Plymouth, and White Bear Lake, she said.
