CUB is gearing up for an important year on both our policy and outreach fronts. At the legislature this year, CUB is working on a bill that will ensure customer energy data privacy and we expect to see other important energy related bills. In the regulatory arena, the utility resource planning process will begin that will lay the groundwork for Xcel Energy’s system for the next 15 years. We also expect to see multiple rate cases in the near future. And, as always, our outreach work with utility customers to help them save money, get energy assistance, and learn about renewable energy will be reaching even more people this year.
This brings us to the importance of our members. CUB is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that relies on foundation support and donations from our membership base to continue our work advocating for energy consumers in Minnesota. Our goal this year is to continue building a coalition of people throughout the state that is committed to supporting affordable and clean energy solutions in Minnesota.
So now you may be asking, “what is membership and how can I be a part of CUB?” By making a donation of any amount, you become a CUB member for the next year. We offer this so anyone can be a member. You retain your membership by making a donation each year. We appreciate the monetary donation as your dollars go a long way in helping us keep our money and energy saving consultation services free for all Minnesotans and supports our advocacy work as well.
But, becoming a member and supporting CUB’s mission with your voice is just as important as the dollar amount. A large membership base adds many non-monetary benefits to the organization. The larger our membership base is, the greater our voice is at the Capitol and at the Public Utilities Commission. Our supporters also provide us with a network we can draw upon to spread our energy and money saving outreach services to more and more people throughout Minnesota.
If this is a mission you would like to support, it would be great to have you on board. You can join or renew your membership by visiting our website. We very much appreciate your support!
